The photos in this link were taken on a lovely sunny day this past June 2012.
The photos below were taken on a slightly foggy morning this December 2012.
While the house has had the grass in the front cut, it is still open to the elements: side windows, back door, and the roof. Additionally there is a water leak under the house.
The photos should speak for themselves. PLEASE send an inspector out the house and move the house through the blight process again. It is dangerous.

Starting in August and continuing to get worse through Novemeber...
there has been a rash of break-ins in the neighborhood, smash and grab, mostly through back or side windows some toolsheds & garages. It seemed our little neighborhood had become a target. There were also a number of auto burglaries, one robbery with a rifle. Representatives from NorthWest Carrollton attended the Night Out against Crime in Palmer Park in October. We arranged to have a Neighborhood Watch Meeting in November. We attended the 2nd District's NONPACC meeting and signed up to track all reported crime in a .5 mile radius centered on Incarnate Word School. The break-ins continued.
We created flyers to let people know that there would be a Neighborhood Watch Meeting November 27th and we walked the neighborhood talking to people as we put flyers on every house in the 5 x 7 block area that is NorthWest Carrollton.
On Tuesday November 27th NorthWest Carrollton held a well attended Neighborhood Watch Meeting. More than 40 people were there.
Our NOPD Quality of Life Officer Eddington spoke about the importance of reporting anything or anybody that "raises the hairs on the back of your neck". Most of us have had the feeling that something isn't right but out of respect for the other person's privacy or individual rights might not call this in. Officer Eddington said, don't hestitate. Call it in and let NOPD work it out. If it is nothing, it's nothing.
But while the breakins and other activities in the area seems to have slowed down we have still had - just last night - a breakin in the 8400 Block of Apricot. There has been only one other break-in, on Joliet November 29th, since the meeting. And one Auto Theft
If you were at the meeting you know that you should be on the lookout for a white 4 door car with distinctive "Mercedes Benz" or "Peace Sign" shaped rims. If you see this car in the neighborhood please call 911 immediately and say that NOPD indicated that any sightings of this kind of car in the neighborhood should be immediately called in.
We have signed up to be sent email notices whenever there is a report filed with NOPD.

These photos taken from Earhart shows that the building is open to entry.
Additionally the fence is down and there are ample materials available that could be dangerous should someone try to enter the building and start a fire to keep warm.
Neighbors have also reported issues with rodents.

How to track Blight in New Orleans
There is (finally) an "official" nola.gov site that allows you to check the blight stats of any property and to see what properties have been reported for blight in any area.
The one option is option is to Browse the map for properties already in the city's system. Unfortunately this can only be done by the month that the property was first reported. Perhaps this is to prevent the map from being too cluttered?
The default option is to Enter a specific address,
It doesn't look like the site advises *when* hearings are held on the properties. BUT if you are interested there is a calendar that shows upcoming hearings and
We've emailed these folks blightstatus@nola.gov to ask if/when the BlightStatus Tool will also show when hearings are scheduled to be held and not just that they have been held and the judgement.
This site is a very large step into the 2st Century.

A group put together after public pressure regarding the oil flow estimates began to mount eventually concluded that the flow rate had initially been 62,000 barrels per day, and had fallen to 53,000 barrels per day by the time the well was shut down in July 2010, the indictment says.

On Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at approximately
9:40 P.M., Second District officers responded to an armed robbery with a gun in
the 3000 block of Lowerline Street.
Second District officers met with the victim who
stated that he was walking from his vehicle to his residence when he was
approached from the rear by an unknown black male with a semi-automatic rifle.
The victim stated that the unknown black male stated “Give it up, your wallet,
your keys, and everything”. Victim complied with the unknown black male’s
demands. The unknown black male fled the scene in possession of the victim’s
2000 burgundy Ford F-150.
Victim described the suspect as a slim build
black male approximately 5’10” wearing a dark knitted cap and dark
clothing.
Second District officers located the victim’s
vehicle abandoned in the 1200 block of South Genois Street.

Attempted break-in @ 9AM on Carrollton
There are an attempted break-in
on October 24th in the 2700 block of Carrollton (across from Lafayette School)
at 9AM in the morning, in broad daylight.
with cars parked in the driveway of the house (indicating people were probably home),
neighbors home next door,
kids acroos the street at Lafayette School
AND 1 adult and 2 small children in the house.

After hearing the sound of broken glass, the adult and children came
downstairs to check things out and found the perp standing on the brick wall shared with the neighbors breaking the window with a brick.
The adult ran upstairs, pushed the panic alarm, locked herself in the closet with
the children and called 911.
This was NOT the backyard, NOT out of sight. This was the driveay with all the traffic of Carrollton Avenue flowing by, pedestrians & cars.
It was brazen and in its brazenesss all the more scary.
So very often the victims are blamed somehow for the crime. They should have been more diligent, more aware, more alert, more prepared. What more could these victims have done?
Too often there is too little followup. This is not to say that the NOPD can quickly catch every criminal after the act. BUT at the very least those of us who participate in Neighborhood Watch activity should be TOLD when this kind of activity is taking place in our neighborhoods. On this event we have not heard (except from the victims) a peep. And that is sad. Sad and unacceptable. IF we are all in this together then we are all in this together. Otherwise we are either a perp or a vic.

"BP has asked the U.S. Coast Guard to allow it to abandon a containment dome on the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico that it capped and plugged this week after concluding it was the source of oil causing repeated sheens near the site of the company's failed Macondo well. The request was included in an exchange of e-mail messages on Sunday and Monday between James Grant, BP's Gulf regulatory compliance and environmental manager, and Coast Guard Federal On-Scene Coordinator Capt. Duke Walker. The email messages were obtained by The Times-Picayune.
The cofferdam is a metal box! Not a well. Well's are plugged and abandoned. Because it is possible to plug a well and leave the seafloor close to it's original condition. The whole reason for the cofferdam's existence was to "hold oil". The fact that BP is asking to "plug and abandon" this think that is known to leak show that BP has learned NOTHING! This metal box will, over time, leak. . They might have to "abandon it" meaning not raise it to the surface today. But BP can not "abandon it" or the responsibilities associated with it and "walk away"! BP owns the monitoring on this "box" for the lifetime of the box or until they can suck the oil from it (not likely).
"A mixture of oil and slushy methane hydrate -- a frozen form of natural gas -- is believed to have plugged the exit leading to the stovepipe at the top of the dome during the oil collection attempt. Some of the oil and frozen methane are believed to remain in the structure.
" 'BP continues to believe that abandonment of the cofferdam in place is the best course of action and presents fewer environmental and safety risks than attempting to recover it,' Grant wrote in an email message to Walker on Sunday.
Grant attached a copy of the approval the Department of Interior's Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement gave in Feb. 2011 to an earlier request to abandon the 40-foot-tall, 86-ton steel structure at its location about 1,500 feet from the Macondo well. He also included a copy of those plans, which included information about the risks involved in returning the structure to the surface, its condition at the time, and a third-party analysis of its stability on the ocean floor.
In a Thursday news release announcing approval of BP's cap-and-plug plan, the Coast Guard 'directed BP to submit a feasibility plan that considers the next steps toward either removing or remediating the threats of oil posed by the riser pipe and containment dome.'
In his Monday note to Grant, Walker's directions to the company included: 'Having temporarily mitigated this source of pollution, undertake the planning effort necessary to develop proposed courses of action to either remove or remediate the remaining sources of oil: riser pipe and the cofferdam/containment dome.' The door on the Earhart side is open and this allows entry and create the opportunity for a fire hazard as well as kids being kids and potentially getting hurt.
But it's not just the large open door on Earhart. The whole property is an issue.
The property is overgrown and the neighbors are seeing rodents and snakes.
Something needs to be done. Again.
